Seeing beyond the eyes

Whilst eye care practitioners can't always treat sight loss, they are well positioned to help patients in other ways. Making referrals to charities and support services can help patients to maintain their independence and general well-being.

This article follows the journey from diagnostic appointments through to receiving the appropriate help and support from the perspective of a low vision patient. What referrals should be made, and when they should be made, are discussed. In addition, the signs that suggest a patient requires further support are outlined.
